About the technology
Python is a general-purpose programming language known for readable syntax and dynamic typing, which makes it quick to write and to maintain. It covers everything from short scripts and automation tasks to web backends, data processing and machine learning, largely thanks to a very broad standard library and package ecosystem. The reference implementation, CPython, is written in C and Python and is released under the Python Software Foundation License.
Python was created by Guido van Rossum and first released in 1991, with the aim of producing a language that was easier to read and work with than the alternatives of the time. Python 2 and the backwards-incompatible Python 3 line coexisted for years until Python 2 reached end of life, leaving Python 3 as the standard. Development is now coordinated through the Python Software Foundation and the open CPython repository on GitHub, with regular annual releases.
In Lithuania, Python appears most often in Data and AI roles, in DevOps and cloud work, in backend development and in test automation. Job ads that mention Python commonly also ask for SQL, Git, Linux, Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, AWS and experience with AI or machine learning tools.
Right now Python is asked for in 93 IT jobs in Lithuania (15 % of all). Most of them are in Data and AI and DevOps and cloud. It is most often asked for together with AI, SQL, CI/CD. The median of the jobs that state a salary is 4 250 € gross per month.
